The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) was set up as a statutory body for promotion of Indian seafood in overseas markets.
The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture is the R&D arm of MPEDA, dedicated to augment Indian seafood exports through sustainable culture technologies. This is a no profit no loss organization which has made breakthroughs in culture technologies of shrimp and other diversified species.
Coastal aquaculture has so far been mainly shrimp-centric and export revenues were coming only from this source but with the applied research pursued by RGCA in culture technologies of diversified species, the country will look forward to expand its export oriented aquaculture base by exporting high valued finfish and shellfish species, apart from the conventional ones.
The R&D activity of RGCA consists of a reliable aquaculture disease diagnostic laboratory in the country. This Central Aquaculture Pathology
This is also the first Aquaculture Pathology Laboratory in the country accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories. This laboratory provides timely and reliable diagnosis of various diseases encountered by the aquaculture industry in the country.
Haat is privileged to take part in the activities of RGCA by supplying their model ADR incinerator for the wastes generated in the R&D lab which includes test samples of aquaculture including dead fish, shrimp and other sea animals.
With the smokeless performance of our incinerator we are very happy to associate with RGCA and to offer our products and services to other units of RGCA within the country.
“Incinerator is in our service since April 1997. The incinerator is working satisfactorily in accordance with the specifications” - Mr. R. Anbalagan, Manager (Process), Mitocon Biotec, Cuddalore.
