The first ever incinerator made by Haat was supplied to Mallya Hospital. It was a PD 6 model incinerator with a loading capacity of 40 kg/h. Mallya hospital is a leading private hospital in Bangalore, providing quality service to people.
The story behind this installation is interesting. A patient, who was a well-wisher of Haat, was admitted to the hospital for an ailment and she saw the need for proper waste collection and disposal. There were only draft guidelines for bio-medical waste management at that time, but hardly any hospital was implementing it. She made us meet the President of the hospital, who agreed to install the incinerator.
The problem was the school and playground next door, the hospital being right in the middle of the city. And then there was limited space at the back of the hospital where the incinerator had to be placed. We offered a wall mounted stack of may be 20 metres with assurance of no visible smoke or odour.
Haat’s first ever incinerator was made and installed. Commissioning was fixed for a particular date when the senior executives of the hospital came to
When our service engineer visited the installation after a couple of weeks, he reported that the back of the building housing the incinerator was spotless.
In due course, the PD 6 gave way to a PD 12, as the bed strength in the hospital was increased. While supplying the higher version, the PD 6 was taken back and it still adorns the gardens of Haat, after nearly 25 years.
Subsequently, we also installed a wet scrubber in line with the then current bio-medical waste rules.
The Mallya installation became the forerunner of at least 35 installations in Karnataka, before common facilities took over this job.
Incinerator with scrubber and 30-m chimney installed by HAAT has been working satisfactorily since June 1999 in our factory. We use it for disposing of paint sludge - Mr. Pankaj Tyagi, New Holland Tractors (India) Pvt. Ltd., Noida.
