International Hospital of Bahrain

Many years ago, we received an RFQ from the International Hospital of Bahrain for an incinerator for disposal of biomedical waste.  This hospital is one of the well known hospitals in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  Established in 1978, it was the second private medical center in the country after the American Mission Hospital.  At that time, the incinerator we offered was Haat model PD 12 and it was meeting the then prevalent emission norms comfortably.  They ordered the machine.  We were able to make the machine within the time specified, but before dispatch it was to be inspected by the hospital representatives.  A Biomedical engineer from Bahrain visited our factory, inspected the ready incinerator and cleared it for dispatch.

The machine was shipped to Bahrain and one of our commissioning engineers went to the site to commission the same.  They were using it for a few years and after a couple of years,  one of our senior executives was visiting Bahrain on personal work and an appointment  with the President of the hospital was obtained so that they could exchange views.

Our executive visited the hospital an hour before the scheduled appointment and went to the incinerator site to see if any service to the machine was required.  He found there was some smoke coming out of the chimney.  On enquiring with the operator and

supervisor as to how the incinerator was performing, he was told that the incinerator was performing alright, but there were times when some visible smoke was coming out.  Upon inspection, he found that de-ashing of the combustion chamber was not done regularly resulting in ash fly accumulation preventing smooth flow of flue gases and therefore causing smoke and the burner also required servicing.  Fortunately he was carrying some spares and he was able to provide service to the burner and helped them clear the chamber of ash.

Once the servicing was done, waste was loaded, fired and everyone started smiling because there was no visible smoke.  One more person who was not there, witnessed this work from a distance.  Our executive went to the President’s office for the scheduled appointment.  The President received him and said he was happy with the working of the incinerator and the free service provided by the company to rectify the operator’s mistakes to make the incinerator work.  (He was able to see the incinerator being serviced from his office!)  He was quite happy with the spontaneous service provided  and  recommended Haat Incinerators to other clients in the middle east.

We received a very well written appreciation letter from the hospital for the performance of the Haat Incinerator model PD 12.
