We received an enquiry sometime back for a diesel fired incinerator for a big resort from the island nation, Maldives. As we know, the Maldives is an island nation in South Asia in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean Region.
Maldives is well known for its tourist population. Tourism accounts for 28% of the nation’s GDP and more than 60% of their foreign exchange inflow. The development of tourism from the 70s enabled overall growth of the country’s economy, creating direct and indirect employment generation of growth in other industries also.
There were approximately 90 resorts in Maldives in the beginning of 2010 and in 2019 nearly 2 million visitors came to the island. This makes for interesting data, but the dark side of this is the generation of waste.
As we all know, wherever there is human activity, there is generation of waste and the tourism industry which attracts plenty of people also creates a serious a problem of disposing of waste generated by the tourists.
In this project reference, we are talking primarily of paper, plastic, fod and packaging wastes that are discarded by the tourists wherever they assemble. It is true Maldives has made adequate arrangements for collecting such wastes, but very often the waste bins overflow as the tourist inflow increases.
In these circumstances, we were approached by a leading resort in Maldives for a diesel fired incinerator. As a rule, we do not offer a product without understanding what the waste. When we enquired for this information, we were told that it is mostly high calorific value items like
We suggested to the buyer not to buy a diesel fired incinerator, but to invest in a “free burning”, “no fuel” Trash Destructor. The model offered, based on their waste quantity and type was our MD 600. This “trash destructor” which is sometimes referred as an “incinerator” is very cost effective both in terms of initial investment as well as in operation. As a matter of fact, there is practically no running cost involved.
The ingenious design feature of this trash destructor is its ability to introduce atmospheric air, without the need for a fan, into the combustion chamber continuously, enabling continuous burning of the waste. There are pre-determined orifices for air entry into the chamber through which the air flows in, when there is a drop in the chamber pressure. There is also a secondary zone for burning the products of combustion. This means one can only an “odourless and colourless smoke” coming out of the system, conforming to Ringleman scale `0`.
The system is working satisfactorily for many years. We have at least another 6 resorts opting for similar systems in the last few years. For more information please refer to our free burning trash destructor page.
" The incinerator is functioning extremely well and meeting all the requirements of Gazette of India notification. The Strength of the equipment lies in its easy handling, economy in treating bio-medical waste and meeting all criteria control test of PCB Karnataka "
