Incinerators for the Pacific

Haat has done quite a bit of work in the Pacific region with quite a few incinerators supplied to the Melanesian region.

The applications for waste management in these locations have been quite diverse.

1. Vanuatu: This is a South Pacific Ocean nation consisting of roughly 80 islands stretching 1300 kilometers.  The main activities here are tourism, scuba diving at coral reefs, underwater caverns, etc.

Vanuatu is situated about 800 km west of Fiji, and 1800 km east of Australia which makes it an ideal location in the Pacific region for ocean going ships to stop to refuel.

As per MARPOL regulations, ships cannot discharge oil sludge directly into the ocean, but must either have their own on-board incinerator or alternatively should store the wastes and discharge them for disposal by incineration facilities onshore.  One such company who is in the logistics business set up an on-shore incinerator facility using Haat’s marine incinerator model to handle wastes which are carried by the ships who dock in their wharf.

Installation was required during the peak time of the pandemic and as it was a problem to send our installation engineer to the site because of travel restrictions, we did the installation by video call and the customer was able to complete the installation of the machine based on the instructions given.  In addition, this being a skid mounted, fully automatic system where the control philosophy is already predetermined and installed in the PLC control panel, it made things easier.

We are happy that the customer was able to operate the incinerator and handle wastes that are coming to them from different ships.

2. Fiji:We have a business associate here for quite some time that creates, generates and receives RFQs for incinerators from various local users.

While we have supplied a few installations for varied applications, one such order we got recently was for a few bio-security sites in Fiji.  The waste was animal waste and our associate being familiar with Haat’s machines and operations had no problem in installing it and helping the customer to run it efficiently.  The model supplied was ADR.

3. Brunei:Brunei is a tiny nation on the island of Borneo, in 2 distinct sections surrounded by Malaysia and the South China Sea.  Brunei is a South East Asian country consisting of two unconnected parts with a total area of 5,765 square kilometres (2,226 sq miles) on the island of Borneo. (The Sultan of Brunei was once considered the richest man in the world! Perhaps, this was before the emergence of the IT Czars!)

We have supplied a few systems to Brunei through a local company in the year 2009.  The supplied model is BP of capacity 120 kg/h for industrial wastes.  We get orders from time to time for spares for running these machines.  Obviously all the supplied machines are working to the end users’ satisfaction.

4. Papua New Guinea We have supplied our model ADR for food waste and this has been working well for a few years now.
