Incinerator for Atomic Energy

Haat has the capability and experience in installing incinerators for Atomic Energy establishments, particularly for radioactive wastes, both solid and liquid.

Radioactive wastes need very stringent and highly safety-oriented equipment and need careful handling of the waste and even more careful incineration of the same.  These incinerators are usually designed based on the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) safety series 108 for ‘Design and Operation of Radioactive Waste Incineration Facilities’.

To do this, the manufacturer has to be equipped with certain pre-requisites:

  1. Experience in the incineration field for at least 15 years.
  2. Experienced and skilled staff and technicians.
  3. Very good and effective quality control department.
  4. Production equipment to handle welding of the critical equipment without any problem.
  5. Good service team to complete installation and commissioning without any hitch and provide continued service to the end user.

The manufacturer must understand the significance of handling this type of waste and should be able to provide;

  • Welders qualified under ASME Section IX. Only such qualified welders can carry out fabrication of the key
equipment.  Haat has 6G qualified welders.
  • Testing of the fabricated equipment which will be subjected to 100% x-ray examination without exception so that no leakage of the liquid or flue gas takes place.
  • The refractory chosen must be capable of withstanding the type of waste that is to be handled and it should be have very low porosity.
  • The design of the incinerator should be such that there will be no positive pressure in the burning chambers as this would result in leakage of flue gas carrying radioactive substance.
  • Air pollution control equipment: The kind of downstream Air Pollution Control equipment should be very carefully chosen.  This may include venturi scrubber, bag filter, pre-filter and HEPA filter.  This kind of air pollution control equipment will ensure particulate emission of less than 1 mg/Nm3.
  •

    Haat has supplied incinerators for both liquid and solid wastes for radioactive applications, the waste liquid being radioactive dodecane and the solid waste being contaminated PPEs such as aprons, gloves, cotton wastes, etc. and such systems are working well for more than 10 years.  Haat also has incinerators for NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material) waste.

    You may rely on Haat to give you a solution, whatever the type of waste.
