Each and every one of us can take some simple steps to reduce the amount of waste we generate, to re-use existing items and to recycle material to save natural resources and to decrease our contribution, albeit indirect, to significant environment impacts.
Controlling the waste we generate can save our environment and our health
Reduce
Switch off taps when not in use
Use public transport when possible, car pool, walk or bike to save fuel
Keep your car tyre pressure at the correct level
Drive at speeds below 80 km/hr
Make hard copies or prints only when really needed
Switch off lights and electrical appliances when not in use, even disconnecting plugged-in wires can reduce energy consumption.
Do not keep equipment in stand-by mode for long durations, they can still consume power.
Use only CFLs/LEDs.
Re-use
Use glass bottles in place of plastic.
Trade your old CDs instead of throwing them away.
Upgrade your PC
Donate old clothes and electronic equipment
Use washable plates and mugs rather than disposable paper cups or plates
