Geita Gold Mines, Tanzania placed a contract with us through our associates in that country for supply of an incinerator of capacity 50 kg/h for handling hazardous industrial waste generated in the mines.

 

This was a prestigious contract in as much as we are supplying to a gold mine for the first time and this happens to be one of the AngloGold Ashanti’s flagship mines located in north-western Tanzania in the Lake Victoria goldfields of Geita region. It has been in operation as a large-scale mine since the 1930s.

 

The gold deposit here is currently mined as both open-pit and underground operation.

 

The specifications called for a static hearth incinerator, semi dry scrubbing system along with other equipment. This means a gas cooler after secondary chamber followed by a bag filter, ID fan and so on.

 

The machine was fabricated and

shipped on time. However, it took a while before installation could be taken up, thanks to the Corona virus. This had to be done by virtual conference between us and the client. However, commissioning was done by us physically. Our Installation & Commissioning in-charge visited the site for this purpose. (It appears that Geita Gold Mines is located a 1000 kms from Dar-es-Salaam! So this called for another exhausting trip within the country.) The person who completed the commissioning is also in charge of the Common Hazardous Incinerator Facility in our premises. Performance test was done without any hitch and the machine was handed over to the customer who was happy to start using it.

 

Everything worked like clockwork, but our representative’s wish to visit the world famous Serengeti National Park was unfulfilled because of distances and airline schedules. May be there will be a next time!
