Centralised Bio-medical Waste Management in Tanzania
Centralised waste management is relatively a new concept in the African continent, particularly in Tanzania. This can be particularly advantageous to individual hospitals and healthcare establishments as standards for medical waste management evolve and keep improving.
Our Associates in Tanzania, who have been in the waste management field for quite a while, have been selected by the Ministry of Health to set up several such facilities in their country. We have already worked with this company for a hazardous waste incinerator installed in a gold mine (see Geita Gold Mine).
This is a full-fledged system with a capacity of 2 tons per day with auto loading, scrubber, etc. The gold mine is about a 1000 km from Dar-es-Salam. This was installed by them and commissioned by us and is being used for disposal of industrial wastes generated by the mines.
Based on their success in this field, the Government of Tanzania has entrusted to them the job of transporting, handling and disposal of bio-medical wastes in the island of Unguja, off mainland Tanzania. For this purpose, we will be supplying them very shortly a 600 kg/h system with (2 primary chambers connected to a common secondary chamber) with a wet venturi scrubber, PLC controlled panel with HMI and 20-m chimney.
The system is getting ready and like we did with the gold mine system, our engineer will visit Tanzania and commission the plant. Due to the importance given by the Tanzanian Government to improvement of waste management in their country, it is likely that a VIP will inaugurate this system after installation.
We are happy to be associated with this maiden project in the African nation.
