Incinerator for B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences Nepal
There was a tender many years ago from the Central Public Works Department for the installation of a 200 kg/h medical waste incinerator in B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences located 400 kilometers east of Kathmandu in Nepal.
It was a 1000 bedded hospital built by the British primarily for use of the Armed Forces. The contract was awarded to CPWD for renovating the hospital and to install a biomedical waste incinerator.
We won the contract for the incinerator and supplied in time our model PD 35 of 200 kg/h capacity, one of the largest in the PD range at that time. This model met fully the requirements of the then prevailing regulatory requirements.
The equipment with burner, control panel, diesel tank and other ancillary equipment was made and delivered to the site on time. The building work was done by CPWD and the machine was shifted indoors on arrival. We were called to the site for commissioning the machine. When our team arrived at the site, they were surprised to find several tons of biomedical waste had been collected and was waiting for the inauguration of the incinerator. The machine had to be run for 7 days continuously and we advised the client not to accumulate so much waste as medical waste is always to be disposed of within 48 hours of generation.
This is one of the earliest machines supplied by us and we presume it is still working to the satisfaction of the hospital authorities.
