Complete Incinerator Packages for Large Global Projects (Part 8)
This blog deals with an oil and gas project in the Iraqi oil and gas drilling site – Badra Oilfield right next to the Azadegan site of NIOCL in Iran. The end user in this project was Gazprom of Russia and the EPC contractor was Petrofac, UAE.
This was not a highly customised project, but it still had several hazardous area requirements for electrical equipment and instruments. For the safety of operators, the incinerator chambers were to have a protective stainless steel mesh all around as protection against the hot surface.
The project was won against stiff competition from two British companies. The story unfolds like this.
A French engineering consultant for this project, impressed with our credentials, recommended our name as one of the approved makes in the FEED specs.
Petrofac sent us the RFQ and we quoted after many prolonged discussions about the specs, vendor list, commercials, etc. The British quoted as per their standard specs and such incinerator systems obviously cost lesser. We pointed out to the procurement guys that we had quoted strictly as per the RFQ and if we could also offer our standard units, but with compliance to hazardous area requirements, would they accept? They readily agreed, the offer was made ready forthwith and the order was in our hands that evening!
This was snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. We came to know later that the purchase order was on the verge of being issued to someone else and was ready to be mailed. A lucky phone call changed everything.
Anyway, we were happy to receive the order and executed it in time. We helped the client commission the plant themselves through remote assistance as it was a skid-mounted incinerator system requiring very little site work.
Since then we have been providing service and spares to the client and the system is being utilised on a regular basis.
