The Quandary of the MSMEs
These are very difficult times. People cannot go out of their homes. One cannot travel. No vacation. Children cannot play with their friends. Labourers are struggling to determine where their daily bread is going to come from. No construction activity. No trading activity. The city of Bangalore in India during the day looks like it has gone back 50 to 60 years when the population was less than 1 million.
The IT Industry which is the biggest foreign exchange earner is in doldrums. The automobile industry which was already facing a down swing, has been hit hard. Other industries are in a standstill.
What about the small and medium enterprise?
They face probably the worst scenario because without any revenue they are expected to pay salaries, statutory payments like PF, ESI, electricity bills, telephone bills, sub-contractors’ bills and so on. They don’t know where the money is going to come from and when.
We are at Haat are in a peculiar situation. We have finished equipment numbering 8 all of which are waiting for some small quantity of raw materials and some bought outs. Most of these are meant for exports to countries in Africa, Middle East, Nepal, etc.
We hope and trust the government will enable, without compromising on the health and safety of people, movement of goods and opening up of ports for these shipments to move.
We are also making ready small to medium incinerators in some quantities and are prepared to dispatch these to those who are hit hard by the virus. Corporates who have a strong CSR policy can help procuring these from us and supplying to large companies, small hospitals, etc. for disposal of PPEs.
