Ship Incinerator on a Shore Job
An Indian Ocean island producing electricity using heavy furnace oil generators had quite a lot of waste oil to be disposed of. They were using European incinerators for this purpose, but the quantity of the waste increased over a period of time and hence there was a requirement for an additional incinerator. The bid called for stringent specifications and IMO certification.
We took part in this global bid along with many European manufacturers and won the contract. Our SWR model 2400 was offered in this instance. The machine was built based on the IMO standards and our own design incorporating customer`s requirements and on the understanding we will provide IMO certificate before commissioning.
We decided to get the completed incinerator tested and approved by an international agency for inspection, in an effort to get IMO type certificate for a marine incinerator. The testing itself was done over a period of 3-4 days continuously and the inspecting agency satisfied itself over the incinerator`s construction, MOC, performance and emissions and cleared it. While doing this testing itself, we invited the client and our local business associate to witness the test and satisfy themselves. This was then cleared for shipment. Our commissioning team went to the site after the shipment was cleared and the incinerator taken to the site and facilitated the completion of installation and commissioning.
The incinerator is working round the clock now for the past 4 years and we have provided spares and service from to time. There have been no major maintenance issues and whatever little problems were attended to by our local business associate and his team.
We are happy that the SWR incinerator is matching up to the European incinerators in terms of performance and meeting the emissions. We are also happy the incinerator is able to show its mettle when put to continuous use over a long period of time.
