The Far East Incinerator Connection

We received an RFQ from Korea from one of the largest EPC companies in the world for an incinerator package for use in an oil and gas drilling site situated in Myanmar. The specifications called for a very high end system with features like hazardous area Ex-d rating, SIL certification and including a dedicated SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems).

The incinerator package was of a small capacity, but the specs called for a much larger chamber than what would normally be required with many safety features, hi-end instrumentation and a life expectancy of at least 20 years. A flame proof local control panel, RCU (Remote Control Unit) placed in the instrument control room and motors were also specified. The entire incinerator package was to be skid mounted.

The buyer was paying a decent price for the incinerator package more for the stringent specifications and high accuracy engineering and documentation than the actual waste handling throughput or system configuration.

Since we have developed the necessary expertise for oil and gas sites, it was not difficult for us to meet the buyer`s expectations in terms of quality of fabrication, testing, etc.  There were some challenges during the engineering phase due to the intense scrutiny of documents by the EPC Company’s huge engineering force, but we were able to satisfy all their needs, albeit with a few more revisions than what would normally be required.  The other challenge was running the VFD operated fans as the controls were more than 200 m away and CIV (Corona Inception Voltage) of the motors needed to be considered.

The completed incinerator package was offered for inspection to a team of international inspectors from three different third party agencies. When the inspection was completed, the inspectors called for a concluding meeting with Haat personnel from Design, Production, QC, Projects and Procurement who were involved in the project.

Before the inspectors started with their comments, one of the Haat production supervisors could not help but ask the inspecting team what they thought of the Haat incinerator package built for the end user. A Malaysian inspector answered this question. He said “I didn`t know India could make such world class equipment until I saw your incinerator”!

This pleased the entire Haat team no end as they felt fully motivated by these compliments that too coming from a person whose main job was to find faults!
