Complete Incinerator Packages for Large Global Projects (Part 5)

In this blog, we talk about the Hazardous Waste Incinerator project with heat recovery for TATA Motors, Jamshedpur.

We were aware, for some time, that Tata Motors were in need of a good incinerator system for their truck plant in Jamshedpur and were not surprised when an RFQ was in our mail box. The specifications called for a hazardous waste incinerator with flue gas scrubber, PLC automation and stack. They have jigs used in painting booths which get coated with paint and these needed to be removed before reuse. Haat recommended a waste heat recovery system which could be used to recover heat from flue gas exiting the secondary chamber.

The waste itself consisted of oil sludge, oil soaked cotton, paint sludge and other hazardous industrial items.

Haat’s Incinerator Model LRD was chosen with a wet scrubber, auto loader, 30 m chimney and PLC panel. For the jigs, a bogie system was added with its own ID fan. The fan pulled the untreated flue gas from the primary chamber and incinerated the paint from the jigs loaded onto the bogie. The resultant flue gas was sent to the secondary chamber for further treatment.

This was accepted by the client. There were other bidders who came up with their own designs. It was an open e-bid system, which we won by a hair’s breadth.

The system was made, despatched, installed and commissioned. As per contract we were to do O & M of the system for a period of 3 years. Actually this got extended to more than 10 years!  During this period, we had a dedicated team of engineers and technicians posted at Jamshedpur who did a splendid job, of course, with the full co-operation of the plant people.

We exited the scene a few years ago and since then the system continues to be used by TML.

It has been a long time, but that is what a Haat incinerator provides - longevity.
