Refractory Lining in Haat's Incinerators

We have already said quite a lot about the special customized refractory that we use in our incinerators.  This refractory insulates the incinerator body from the heat and radiates the high temperature within the chamber.

It has a long working life.  What is the secret behind it? What makes the refractory have a long life?  There are incinerators working for many years, stretching over 15 -17 years, without the need for relining.  There are many reasons for this”

1.                The nature of the refractory, its chemistry and binders used make it develop high CCS at high temperatures (unlike conventional ones).

2.                We create expansion joints within the chamber so that in the event of sudden cooling of the refractory which might cause cracking, these do not extend beyond certain length and depth and do not cause any damage to its functions.

3.                We use special stainless steel high temperature resistant anchors for holding the refractory.  We do not use mild steel anchors.  The reason for this is mild steel rusts when oxidized and the diameter of the anchor increases.   This can go up to 7 times the original thickness of the anchor.  The force of this expansion, if it is in confined areas, can also reach as high as 9000 psi.  This means the expansion of the anchor will damage the lining without any doubt.  The special stainless anchor that we use, no doubt, expands but does not rust.  So the damage is practically nil.

4.                In addition to the anchors, we use a special paraffin coating on the anchor.  What is the function of this coating?  When heat in the chamber rises, the paraffin vaporizes, making room for the stainless steel anchor to expand without damaging the lining.  Once the system is cooled, the vaporized coating condenses and comes back to sit on the anchor.

5.                When it comes to design of the lining, we use a combination of insulating materials as well as hot face refractory in such a way that the heat transfer to the incinerator body is less,  the skin temperature reaching only 30 – 40 degrees above ambient. Special software is used for this purpose, which ensures required skin temperature.

Needless to say that Haat’s Refractory lasts longest.
