Incinerator for Human Bones at Wo Hop Shek Crematorium Hong Kong

A company from Hong Kong contacted us for a solution to burn human bones.

Hong Kong has a population of over 7.4 million, of various nationalities, in a 1,100 square kilometre territory and is one of the most densely populated places in the world. Originally a sparsely populated area of farming and fishing villages, Hong Kong has become one of the world's most significant financial centres and commercial ports.

Being an island with limited availability of space, burial grounds also run out of sufficient area.  The Wo Hop Shek Crematorium is located near Fanling in Hong Kong.  It is the largest public cemetery and was opened in 1950.

In order to cater to new burials, human bones are exhumed from old burial spaces, incinerated and the resulting ash is handed over to relatives of the dead.  The incineration is done in two 20 kg/h GD incinerators which is a highly fuel efficient system.  Disposal by incineration would reduce the volume and produce little amount of ash which can be respectfully preserved.

Though we had not installed

an incinerator for human bones before, we were confident of the results having supplied many incinerators for the incineration of animals and birds of various sizes.  We also chose the GD based on its unique single burner double chamber design.

The GD model incinerator with two combustion chambers is of a special design, where there is a grated hearth on which the waste is loaded for burning.  The grate enables circulation and recirculation of the products of combustion repeatedly before going to the secondary chamber for after burning.

The equipment supplied included fully automatic pressure jet diesel burners with a common 10 meter chimney for both the incinerators.

The equipment was supplied in the year 2008 and we had an occasion to visit this company after almost 10 years and found the equipment working satisfactorily, doing its job.

Once again Haat has been able to offer a solution for this extraordinary problem.

Testimonials.

“The system fully meets the requirements of the Central Pollution Control Board’s guidelines for Hazardous Waste Incinerators.” – SMR Prasad, GM (Environment Management), JSW Steel.
